And with Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Now making a major push in on-demand gaming, will the next decade ring in a new, all-digital status quo for the industry? What future will the 2020s bring? For one thing, we know that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are coming next year, while cloud gaming services like Google Stadia will continue to challenge the notion that we need a box at all to enjoy the best games. In the years between, we’ve also seen the rise of live services, cloud gaming, on-demand streaming, home-handheld console hybrids, and excellent experiences on our mobile devices. In 2010, we were impatiently waiting for DLC expansions, and now we bow to the almighty battle pass. The PC remains a constant in our lives, but we’ll soon be saying goodbye to the era of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. ![]() We kicked off the 2010s with the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii, and we’re ending the decade at the twilight of another generation of platforms. ![]()
